Movie Monday: Spies, Eight Graders & A Smackerel of Honey

If you follow me on social media, then you know that I’ve been moving for the past two weeks. Yes, it’s taken me that long and it has not been fun. However, I am so thankful that bae and I have our weekly movie tradition because that gave me a break.

I like to go to the movies comfy and I always take my blanket. Since my favorite theaters use recliner seats, it’s like you’re watching a movie at home! This blanket we got from the Disney Store (Similar) and it’s sooooo soft! It’s also pretty big and we can spread it out over two seats. 🙂

The Spy Who Dumped Me

We got to see this movie the weekend before it came out and it was great! Although it is a spy movie, it is also a chick flick.  Mila Kunis, plays the main character and her ex-boyfriend turns out to be a spy and she ends up having to travel to Europe to deliver a secret file. Kate McKinnon plays the best friend who goes along this adventure and her character is hilarious! Sometimes inappropriate but very entertaining! Of course, the male leads are some very handsome men so that doesn’t hurt. I do think the movie was a little predictable, but in a happy ending kinda way.

Overall, I recommend watching this with your girlfriends. There was one lady in our theater who was just having a ball! She was laughing so loud and so hard, we couldn’t help but laugh along. That’s how you know it’s a fun movie!

Mission Impossible: Fallout

This movie was advertised so much, we kinda felt like we had already seen the entire movie through the previews and didn’t care to go watch it when it came out. But because we knew it would probably be a popular movie and because it got a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes we went and saw it. Not gonna lie, I was pleasantly surprised! The previews do show a lot, but the movie fills in gaps you didn’t even know existed and in ways you wouldn’t have guessed! There is so much much going on in this movie I was having problems catching my breath before the next action scene!

This movie is a full out spy movie, nothing like the Spy Who Dumped Me. And if you haven’t seen the other movies, I would recommend you watch them before this. There was definitely some parts where I was lost because it’s been so long since I saw the other ones.

Christopher Robin

If you grew up watching Winnie the Pooh then you are going to LOVE this movie! This movie brought all the memories and all the feels. I don’t know when that silly ‘ol bear got so clever, but this movie gets very deep and very emotional at times. And of course it has a lot of humor and cuteness that only the character from the Hundred Acre Woods can bring us. I might have been the one laughing the most in our theater. No shame in my game!

I recommend watching this movie with family, friends, your significant other, or even by yourself! Just go watch it! Unfortunately, according to Fox News, Christopher Robin was beat out by Mission Impossible: Fallout. *Tear*

Eight Grade

We like to go see indie films. They usually rate really high on Rotten Tomatoes and we’ve discovered some pretty cool films that we wouldn’t have otherwise. Eight Grade got a 98% on the tomatoes, more than Mission Impossible: Fallout! However, I might have to disagree with this. I completely get what they were trying to do with this movie. Eight grade is HARD, heck middle school in general is hard. And this film touched on a lot of the issues that we all go through, including the parents (the dad was my favorite character). It was just too awkward for me to the point where I got uncomfortable. Not in a bad way, but more like a helpless way. I just wanted to reach out this girl and hug her! Also, there’s a scene where she’s walking back and forth and the camera follows her and that just made me dizzy!

I’d recommend this movie to parents and kids starting or in middle school. This movie is a good reminder that yes, school and life suck sometimes, but you can and will get through it.

These next two weekends I’ll be travelling and won’t have a chance to go see any movies. 🙁 But if you want to read my last review, check out this post. Once I get back from my trip I’m sure I’ll be so tired I’ll want to just go to the movies to relax and will pick back up with Movie Mondays!

XO, Mayra
