5 Ways to Have the Best New Year

New year, new me, right? As cliché as it may sound, I think this IS the perfect time to commit to being a better version of yourself. We all have so much more to learn and grow, and a new year gives us that opportunity!

This post is not going to be about new years resolutions specifically, but rather on advice on how to keep yourself motivated throughout the year. New years resolutions are great, but rarely do we keep them. Why is that? I’ve been listening to a lot of motivational speakers lately and they all come to a consensus that we all get discouraged and stop. Raise your hand if this has happened to you? I know it has happened to me. Many times. So what can you do?

Make Goals, Not Resolutions

Instead of thinking short term, like just for the new year, think of your future! What can you do now that will benefit you in the future? Instead of making short term resolutions, focus on steps you can take for a better you in 3, 5, and 10 years!

Think of the Positive, NOT the Negative

Instead of thinking “I’m fat, I need to lose weight” think of all the benefits that come with choosing a healthy lifestyle. Instead of putting yourself down for all that is wrong with you, think of what you are good at (because there is a lot) and focus on highlighting that!

Find Balance

Instead of denying yourself of things you love, add! Have that cookie or piece of cake, but also be sure you add veggies and fruits to your daily diet. Live your life, have that drink, stay up late and go to that party. But be sure you include things that will benefit your body and mind as well. Workout, drink water, listen to podcast and videos that encourage you to be better. Life is all about balance.

Make a Roadmap with Checkpoints and Incentives

Creating a plan is the best way to succeed. Be realistic of what you can accomplish and strive to reach these checkpoints. And when you do, reward yourself!

Be Happy

Most importantly, be happy. If a diet is making you feel miserable, change it! If a friend or partner puts you down, drop them. If you hate your job, get a new one! YOLO! Seriously! You only have one life to live, don’t waste it on things that don’t make you happy!
