As y’all might know by now, I love brunch! Bae knows I love brunch as well, so whenever he hears or tries out a new place, he knows to let me know and eventually take me! He knew immediately that I would love this place: CommonWealth!
Y’all, my first thought of this place was, “Oh.em.gee. this place is so cute!” then it was, “Wow, it’s really busy…” I don’t know about y’all, but for me, if a place is busy or hard to get reservations to, you know it’s gonna be good! And CommonWealth did not disappoint!
Like many places around The Pearl, this place is a house turned restaurant with a cute garden patio. It is located behind The Wash Tub on Broadway and Hildebrand and is walking distance from the University of the Incarnate Word. It’s open Monday – Saturday, starting at 7am. The kitchen closes at 3 pm everyday, but the place stays open till 6pm, Monday – Friday. Perfect for an afternoon coffee pick-me-up! On Saturday’s they have a special Brunch Menu, which is what we tried!
In addition to providing you an authentic French culinary experience, CommonWealth also takes great effort to incorporate local ingredients into their daily fare. From fresh vegetables provided by local farms and the various herbs from their own backyard to the cuvee coffee roasted in Austin, CommonWealth is dedicated to bringing you the highest quality dishes and drinks for breakfast, lunch and Saturday brunch.
So the way CommonWealth works, is that you go up to the counter and order. You then get a number, pick a table, and they’ll bring the food out to you. There are plenty of tables, but the line can go out the building. Granted, it’s not a big building, but don’t worry, there is plenty of seating! They have seating indoors and outdoors, both out front and back.
We ordered off the Saturday Brunch menu. Pictured above is the CommonWealth Mollete (black beans, crispy chorizo & Monterrey Jack) and it was delicious and filling! I love chorizo for breakfast! Bae got the Chocolate Chip Waffle. I must say I was a little underwhelmed by this one, but it still tasted great! He also ordered a coffee, which is what they are good at! I of course had to get a pastry, and I chose a Coeur Francais (buttery, French version of a cinnamon roll baked with chocolate chips). Y’all, the picture does not do it justice to how good it tasted!
Check out more of their menu here.
Outfit Details: Sweater | Leggings | OTK Boots (Similar)
I understand that long lines and not being able to find parking might be deterring (they have a small parking lot in the back and street parking is available. Just don’t block or park in anyone’s driveway!) But this place is definitely worth it! And if you’re not in the Pearl/UIW area, don’t worry, they have three other locations in San Antonio!
Y’all this sweater quickly became my fav! I thought it was gray, but turned out to be a forest green, which I immediately fell in love it! And the slits on the side add some extra style to it! I paired it with these Over-The-Knee boots that I got last year but are unfortunately sold out. But I linked a similar pair by the same brand!
XO,
Mayra
