June is already gearing up to be a busy month! Summer school has started for me, but everyone else is off meaning there’s tons of summer events going on! From games, to birthdays and holidays, I’ll be on the road almost every weekend of June!
This past weekend I hit the road and went to Houston, TX! Here’s a recap on what we did, where we ate, where we stayed and how we got around.
We stayed at Hotel Indigo Houston at the Galleria. It is one of the cutest hotels I have ever stayed at! The hotel is modern and so colorful. If we didn’t have so much going on, I probably could have spend the whole day doing photo shoots on every corner of this place! And the location is prime for shopping (literally next door to the Galleria) and tons of restaurants. It’s also about a 20min drive from Downtown with little to no traffic.
We could have had breakfast at the hotel, BUT being in Houston, I knew there had to be a place close by worth checking out for brunch. And thanks to Google, I found Adair Kitchen. When we first pulled up, the line was out the door and I thought for sure the wait would be ridiculous. However, you actually have to order first, then you pick out a table and they bring the food out to you.
We had the Crispy Chicken + Waffles and the Farmers Market Skillet. I got the skillet because it said it came with “chorizo” but it was sausage. -_- Thankfully bae switched plates with me 🙂 I of course had to have a michelada as well! Overall the food was good and I would totally recommend it, especially if you’re looking for something on the healthier side!
Confession time. I actually don’t really like Houston and I blame it all on traffic and their drivers. Yes I know traffic comes with big cities, but there’s just something about Houston that gives me a panic attack at the wheel! Thankfully there’s Uber and Lyft and public transportation!
From the hotel to the stadium we Ubered. Getting there was no problem since we went early, but getting back was a whole ‘nother story! Obviously prices spike at the end of events. Luckily we found the Flying Saucer and played a couple games of darts while we waited for prices to come back down.
On the second day, we decided to check out a museum before the game. But since we had to check out of the hotel, we drove downtown instead and parked in a garage. From there, we took the metro to the Museum Center and walked a couple blocks. I love being able to use public transportation when possible. It’s a cheap alternative to getting around and usually very convenient! Plus I don’t have to deal with navigating traffic and that’s always a plus!
The main reason we went to Houston was to watch the Red Sox play against the Houston Astros. In a four game series, we went to the last two. They had already lost the first two games, but we must be lucky charms because they won the two we watched! And the games were so exciting, the energy in there was intense! The stadium was a bit larger than the Arlington one and definitely a lot more people. The lines did have a bit of a wait, but nothing terrible. They had a Fan Fest before Saturday’s game and we got tons of free goodies!
On Sunday, since the game didn’t start till 6:30 PM and we had to check out of the hotel by 11 AM, we decided to go check out the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Bae and I enjoy going to museums and with it being an indoor activity (no way I was gonna be outside in 100 degree weather!) I was all for it! Their main attraction seemed to be the dinosaur skeletons! We probably spend the most time there. I even got my very own piece of a triceratops! 🙂 They also have a floor dedicated to Egypt and Chemistry and the Weiss Energy Hall. That was just the permanent exhibitions, this museum offers so much more for the entire family, but unfortunately we were short on time and didn’t get too see all of it. I highly suggest checking it out if you’re ever in Houston! The price per adult is $25, but they offer great student and military discounts (with ID).
Outfit Details: Red Sox Tee | Lilly Tank (Similar) | Shoes | Crossbody | Cap
With Texas getting so hot, I spent the weekend in shorts and keds! I love my Lilly Pulitzer top because it screams summer! All the colors and fun patterns just make Lilly a staple for summer! I got this shirt last last year and got so many compliments on it. I don’t think this specific pattern is available anymore, but Lilly has soooo many gorgeous one, it shouldn’t be hard for you to find one to love!
Like I said, Houston is not my favorite city in Texas, but after this trip, it definitely started growing on me! There is definitely something to do for everyone! Have you ever been to Houston? What’s your favorite thing to do there? Or favorite place to eat? I love recommendations!
