Brunch: Southerleigh at The Pearl

Full disclaimer, I don’t really like breakfast. I don’t know, just something about it. I would usually order something off the lunch menu when going out to eat in the mornings. But then I found out about brunch and my whole life changed. Cheesy I know, but it’s true love.
And then there’s the Pearl in San Antonio. Since the first time I went to the Pearl I fell in love with it. And with my boyfriend living so close to it, it became a place we went often. And good thing, because it’s where I have found some of my favorite brunch spots!

When possible, make a reservation or avoid prime brunch hours, especially on weekends. With the Farmers Market going on every weekend at the Pearl, you can bet everyone is thinking the same thing after taking a stroll through the vendors: brunch! I suggest checking the wait time and then walking the Farmers Market while you wait!
So how do I rate whether I like a restaurant’s brunch?

  1. Atmosphere. Is it a casual/fancy place, hows the decor, location of the building, etc.
  2. Service. How long did it take? Did the waiter/waitress have knowledge of the menu? Where they attentive without being overbearing?
  3. Price. Do you get the best bang for your buck?
  4. Menu. Does it taste as amazing as it looks? Do they have a good selection or is their menu limited? And drinks?

With that in mind, I’m going to go ahead and just start with my FAVORITE:

Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery

Atmosphere.

First of all, the place is just super cute! The decor is rustic, yet so classy and sophisticated. Southerleigh is located at 136 East Grayson, Suite 120, on the ground floor in the historic Pearl brewhouse. They have both an inside and outdoor eating area. For those nice mornings, opt to sit outside, bring your pup and enjoy the views!

Service.

The staff is absolutely great and knowledgeable. Southerleigh prides itself with it’s oysters and seafood. I unfortunately can’t partake because of my shellfish allergies (it’s the absolute worst!) but I’ve heard great things about it! I’ve never really had to wait too long; they have a lot of options on seating! The staff is great! I always mention that I have a shellfish allergy and they are very careful and inform the kitchen for me. And they are never too overbearing. They check in on you just enough times to keep your glasses full but not too much where it feels like you have an extra person in your party.

Price.

You can expect typical Pearl prices. $10-30 per plate. Honestly, I think you get a good sized portion for what you pay. I always walk out of there in a food coma ready for a nap.

Menu.

I usually get the Braised Country Ham Benedict. Doesn’t it look amazing? Just looking at the picture has me craving it now! I’ve thought about ordering something different but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it right? Luckily my boyfriend does order different things so at least I get to try their other items. Everything there is absolutely delicious!

Southerleigh also houses on of my favorite micheladas. If you don’t already know, I am very judgy when it comes to micheladas. Being as they are one of my favorite drinks, I am on a quest to find the best in San Antonio! Southerleigh micheladas come with a shrimp, something I almost found out the hard way. Thankfully, the first time I went our waitress remembered that it was made with oyster sauce and had the shrimp before she brought it out. The next time I went, I asked them if they could make it without it and they were happy to accommodate!

Would ya’ll be interested in a post about micheladas? I’ve found some good ones and some not so much…

Southerleigh also brews their own beers and offer flights for you to try them. For brunch, I prefer a michelada or a mimosa. If you’re going with a group a friends I recommend buying a couple of bottles of champagne and making your own mimosas. I did this with a group of six friends and three bottles was perfect for us!

Overall, Southerleigh is the first place I recommend to anyone who ask me for brunch recommendations. I have yet to go for lunch or dinner, but when I do I’ll be sure to let ya’ll know how it is? Have you gone to Southerleigh? What are your thoughts on it? Any food or drink recommendations?

Outfit Details: Top ( Similar, Similar) | Jeans | Shoes | Necklace (Similar, Similar, Similar)

Did ya’ll know that my favorite color is pink? And I love wearing white! Don’t know why, since food never seems to like to stay in my mouth and ends up on my white clothes! -_-
These pink jeans are perfect for the warm weather! Granted, I wouldn’t recommend wearing jeans in Texas summer heat, but for those cool evenings or for the office, they’re the perfect transitioning piece! I had never bought anything from this brand before, but when I saw them online at Nordstrom, I loved the color and just had to try them! The material is SO comfortable and stretchy. And standing at 5’2″ they’re the perfect length! Usually I have to roll my jeans up. Hehe.
Do you love brunch as much as me? Was this post helpful? Please let me know if you’d like to hear about all the other places I’ve been!
